Is there hope for peace?
02.26.06 (12:24 pm)   [edit]
Hamas chose Ismail Haniyeh, a 43-year-old Gazan viewed by many Palestinians as a pragmatist, as the new prime minister after sweeping the elections on January 25. The group hopes to complete forming a Palestinian government within two weeks.

“If Israel declares that it will give the Palestinian people a state and give them back all their rights, then we are ready to recognize them,” Haniyeh told The Washington Post in an interview posted on its website on Saturday.

Thanks Surrogate, I didn't realize this blog was still operational until I began to get notification of spam. So, I'm cross posting from PP.

Question: Do you support Hamas?

Hamas cannot be trusted. They strap bombs to women and children and blow up innocent people. There is no way to negotiate with them. Unfortunately, the people of Lebanon have made a clear statement with the election of terrorists to govern their nation. How sad.

Question: Do you support Hamas?

A question that can't be answered with a yes or no. I support the Palestinians in their choice of Hamas for leadership. I do not support Hamas in their refusal to recognize Israel although I understand and sympathize with it. I do not support the militancy of Hamas, Israel or the United States.

"They strap bombs to women and children and blow up innocent people."

Yes, if only they had a proper military they could kill people from a distance. This would be so much more acceptable as it is when Israel kills innocent Palestinians or as it was when the US invaded Iraq killing thousands.

That's great, surien. I hate wars as well but I'm not a pacifist although I wish I could be. There will never be peace without justice.

It is a sad reality of war that innocents will die as a byproduct. But you do not see the US intentionally targeting innocent civilians. It is disgusting what the suicide bomber does, and heinious that such is considered a religious act. No justification is acceptable.

The US intentionally targeted innocent civilians when they invaded Iraq. But, this is an argument that's been going on since Bush made his famous conquest and one I won't argue here. I will say there was no justification for the invasion of Iraq either.
