posted by: reducto (reply) post date: 03.08.06 (4:23 am) If you commit an offense in front of a police officer, he doesn't go to a judge and gets a warrant, he arrests you. The Secret Service police are authorized to do the exact same thing. That's the point of being a police officer. Hence the one section you didn't mention in the bill, "Members of the United States Secret Service Uniformed Division shall possess privileges and powers similar to those of the members of the Metropolitan Police of the District of Columbia." In short, they are going to be police officers who can arrest you for committing a crime. Just like a regular police officer can. All of this without a warrant. Why? Because you are committing the crime-- the crime is the warrant.
